Guardians of the Whales

In the early 1970s a new breed of whale scientist began to shun the collect-and-dissect research methods of the day.  They left behind the spurious environments of public oceanaria and the slimy slipways of whaling stations to share the seas with wild whales.  Now they have photo-identification thousands of individual whales from the subtropics to the Arctic Ocean.  They have radio-tracked the incredible migrations of Pacific gray whales; they have recorded the eerie songs of courting humpbacks and the complex dialects of orca families.
